The irony is that had America stayed part of the British Empire then slavery would have been abolished outright in 1809 without the civil war. And the abolition would have been absolute too, without the weird “except” language which keeps slavery alive in America to this day. It’s a weird weird place.

Can't forget Lee's dark side: he inherited slaves from his wife's family that he was supposed to emancipate, but refused to do so until a court ordered him to. Also in the Gettysburg campaign, he forcibly enslaved free men to assist the Army of Northern Virginia in noncombat tasks. This is not someone who passively supported the southern cause because they were born there or happened to inherit slaves from birth, instead he actively promoted the enslavement cause with his actions.

Why should I give two dog poops about The 14th Amendment or What it says, or What it stands for?? Washington DC doesn't give two dog poops about The 2nd Amendment or What it says or What it means. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED UPON!!! Yet, Democrats pay no attention to it and constantly infringe upon it!. So, go stick it!!

One example is all we need: Presidunce Trump coerced Pence to disqualify electors from certain states based on an authority not granted by the Consitution. Considering any president’s primary responsibility is to “uphold and defend” the Constitution, it’s obvious that he should be disqualified from holding any office. What a stupid time we live in.

Having served in the armed forces I will say that this line of thinking is what is wrong with the military senior leadership, and reflects their moral bankruptcy. He makes an excellent point about Lee breaking the oath of office, but that's not why he threw the picture away; he knew that for years. He threw the picture away to conform to the political winds... and this was after he retired, so there was no obligation.

The fact that the NRA the National Rifle Association changed its View to a more radical View of the second amendment in the year 1970. If you listen to the recent video on UA-cam concerning the latest Omnibus gun control act worked on, they bring up every mass shooting event that ever occurred in history. Except for ONE "mass shooting" got no mention. What is this "mass shooting" that the government doesn't even want to talk about. What is this event that in 1970 rocked the boat of the National Rifle Association, and caused every second amendment organization to literally "freak out" in the year 1970. On May 4th 1970 members of the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of Kent State University demonstrators killing four, and wounding nine Kent State students. The impact of the shooting was dramatic. The event triggered a national wide student strike, that forced hundreds of colleges and universities to close. I find it sadly ironic that the demonstrators were demonstrating their displeasure over the war in Vietnam in general and the bombing in Cambodia in particular, carried out by President Nixon. War is a "mass shooting" on a major scale ! . As for the Second Amendment as currently written, I have some serious issues with it. It is poorly written, it is so poorly written and confusing that it must be reinterpreted by the Supreme Court. It does not explicitly say anything about self-defense. This has inspired me to write my new and improved version of the Second Amendment. I have named my new version. Second Amendment 2.1 In order to maintain the blessings of liberty and freedom throughout the land. The pre-existing natural right of the individual to self-defense, shall always be upheld and protected. The right to manufacture, keep and bear arms ammunition, and parts and accessories for arms, will not be infringed or impeded. By any law or mandate, by either the states, or the federal government. A free market being necessary for a free people. The right to manufacture arms for sale, including, ammunition and accessories, for arms, will not be infringed or impeded. By any law or mandate. By the federal government, or the state's governments. This includes both carrying for an individual, or carrying for a company, for trade or sale in another state. Or any city or town, within a state. For any other moral reason. Uninfringed or impeded by law or mandate. And there you have it my new and improved version of the Second Amendment 2.1 and for further Clarity, let me explain the term "pre-existing natural right of self-defense". The Second Amendment to the Constitution was adopted December 15th 1791. The concept of self-defense was created and adopted after the Norman conquest of England in 1066. Coming back up through time back to 1970 and the mass shooting event at Kent State University there was a famous rock and roll band called Crosby Stills Nash & Young they made a song called "Ohio". Previous to their song was the song written and produced,1964, by a young Native Canadian singer-songwriter, Buffy Sainte-Marie, The universal Soldier. I consider her song. The Best anti-war Song Ever written by a human being on this planet. It is my most sincere hope that my version of the Second Amendment 2.1 will one day be recognized as being the best Second Amendment ever re-written, and adopted into law. Also I highly recommend the following books, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, Adventures in Legal Land, by Marc Stevens. Government Indicted, by Mark Stevens, Freedom from Government by Trent Goodbaudy, And Natural Law, by Lysander Spooner. :-)

The problem with the Constitution is in the first three words of the preamble. We the People. Lets define what the people are, and are not. The People are are not colored, the People are not women, and the People are not poor. The Constitution was written by rich, white, men for rich white men. It has changed very little to this day in who holds the power, wealth, and control of the whole of American society.

Except that Lee did not defend slavery he defended his state from invasion. That was how he saw it. If Lincoln does not call up the 75,000 reservist and invade the South starting with and primarily in Virginia, killing Lee's neighbors and friends, Lee stays in Arlington and we never here from him again. We can discuss the intelligence of secession, it was not un-Constitutional they passed an amendment later making it so, but if my home is invaded, I do not care who the invader is I will defend. i imagine everyone i here would do the same.

Caved to weak woman's reasoning----"people might think you like him for reasons you don't".......well if you're innocent of that, you're innocent..........I personally wouldn't have a General Lee portrait as the main attraction on a wall somewhere, because he fought for a bad cause. But if you like him for his good qualities, then stick with what you want.......and if people ask you about it, then clarify. But don't apologize.

Good to see that McChrystal pretty well nailed it on the head. Lee was a great general but an imperfect human being who made the decision to support the Confederacy, whose overarching goal was "the maintenance of slavery."

Drank the cool aide. Sounds like he maybe getting into politics someday. Lee turned down money after the war to go to Washington College in Lexington, Va. Also, Virginia voted 4:58 twice to succeed from the union. First time voted against. Sent a delegation to Washington to meet with Lincoln. Told Lincoln to let the states go, as they had a right under the Constitution. Lincoln called for 75K troops to force South Carolina back into the union. Virginia was not going to send troops to force South Carolina back in. Voted again to succeed. This time they did leave. So, slavery was not the reason Virginia left and Lee followed Virginia. You have to ask yourself how come we were the only country to kill 600k plus people to end slavery. Also, the only reason the north did not have slaves, cotton will not grow up there. I have picked cotton by hand. Not something you would do by choice. Also, I am distant kin of George Thomas and live about 20 miles as a crow flies from the house he was born in. It is still standing and in use.
